About Lightning
JUST LISTED!!!! Before Lighting was making waves on the San Francisco racing circuit, she was a legend in the Great Lakes, winning the prestigious Port Huron to Mackinac Boat Race in 2001 and 2002 with her owner, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bob Seger at the helm. She arrived in San Francisco in April 2004, just in time for that year's Pacific Cup race and immediately made an impact, narrowly missing a Second Place finish. Lightning went on to win the 2006 Pacific Cup as well as successfully competing in 6 Coastal Cups, 2 Cabo Races and several annual Big Boat Series on San Francisco Bay, among other challenging West Coast events. She retired from racing in 2010 but carries a full complement of custom Quantum racing and cruising sails and navigation equipment in top condition, as well as a custom, removable pedestal grinder.
Legendary sailboat designer Bill Lee built the Santa Cruz 52s to be fast but with an eye as well to comfort, beauty, and stability. Lightning's bright, open interior is finished in rich cherry with teak and holly flooring hatches and easily accessible, molded fiberglass settees and generously sized storage cabinets. The large Owner's Stateroom forward offers plenty of headroom and a comfortable double berth with a plush mattress and plenty of well-placed storage with built-in shelves and drawers port and starboard. Private access to the forward head and shower is on the port side just aft of the stateroom.
Accommodations in the well-appointed salon include a large settee to starboard with a spacious quarter berth above and outboard, perfect for a crew member or extra storage. On the port side is another large, U-shaped settee with a dining table and a second quarter berth above and outboard of the settee. Just aft is the generously sized, forward facing nav station and across from there to port is the galley. A second head is located aft, with access through to a very spacious cockpit lazerette. There is a wet locker located to starboard just beyond the nav station as well as another private sleeping cabin. The powerful 70hp Yanmar diesel engine is easily accessible right behind the companionway steps, where individual compartments keep at the ready winches, sailing gloves, and other necessary gear.
Lightning's cockpit is wide-open for safe crew movement but also offers comfortable bench seats with good support and plenty of leg room. She is a joy to sail no matter what the occasion or the winds - responsive, FAST, beautiful - and ready NOW for her next proud owner.
