FREQUENT FLYER

37' 1987 Express Express 37

$55,000.00

Last Updated: 2025-08-27

Frequent Flyer carries a rich Bay Area sailing pedigree. Her first owner raced her to Hawaii in 1987, and her second owner campaigned her actively in the competitive San Francisco Bay Express 37 fleet. Since 2017, under her current owner, she has enjoyed a more relaxed life as a comfortable cruiser - sailing out of Berkeley on weekend family outings, overnights at Ayala Cove, and the occasional Friday Night race with the BYC. At 37 feet with a tiller, she offers responsive, immediate feedback at the helm and agility that makes her a joy to sail.

The Express 37 was conceived in 1984 by designer Carl Schumacher and built by Alsberg Brothers Boatworks in Santa Cruz. Schumacher’s vision was a boat optimized for long ocean races, capable of being sailed safely short-handed, and offering at least 6 feet of standing headroom. Sixty-five were built, and Frequent Flyer is hull number 55. She features a Ballenger "masthead-fractional" rig and boom, paired with a Water Rat spade rudder. In 2016, Easom Rigging replaced her Nitronic solid rod rigging, serviced the Navtec hydraulic backstay, and installed a new hydraulic vang - ensuring she is well-tuned for San Francisco Bay’s demanding conditions.

Her systems and electronics have also been thoughtfully updated. In 2018, her owner installed a full suite of Raymarine equipment, including a chartplotter with Navionics, MFD cockpit display, VHF/GPS/AIS radio, new mast coaxial cabling, and new wind and DST sensors. She also received a new stack pack, and her interior lighting was upgraded to LED.

Regular diver service keeps her bottom clean and zincs fresh. In June 2024, her Yanmar 3GMF30 engine was professionally serviced at Berkeley Marine Center.

Well-equipped, well-maintained, and deeply tied to the Bay Area sailing community, Frequent Flyer is ready to deliver rewarding adventures to her next owner.

Full boat awning, Magma barbeque, pipe berths, and too many spare parts to list.
