IANSA

The Moody 34 is yet another offering from the drawing board of Bill Dixon. A popular offering in Europe, few are found on this side of the pond and they are consequently highly sought after. A go-anywhere vessel, she has a Lloyd's Hull Construction Certificate, with the strength and robust design to lend confidence offshore. She has a faily long fin keel with a partial skeg hung rudder and a good ballast ratio, ensuring good directional stability and making her easy to drive in all sorts of conditions. She sails well to weather and loves a good beam reach.

The topsides are designed with ease of maintenance in mind- only the forward grab rails are teak. The stanchion posts are mounted on top of the toe rail, helping to prevent moisture intrusion into the deck. The high center cockpit, suitable for six, has high coamings for protection and good back support. The back deck is a great place for sunning and lounging.

Inside, she's one tidy little ship. The center cockpit, three cabin layout makes her quite suited for two couples or more. Lee clothes on both the dinette and settee provide sea berths, though the aft cabin will provide a comfortable spot while at sea as well. Handholds abound, engine access is great and the impression you get when you step into her is of security and comfort. There are lots of little details that differentiate the quality yachts from the rest of them- like headliner that is all removable for access to the wiring and deck hardware. All of the storage lockers have carpeted hull sides so your belongings don't get condensation on them and turn moldy. Round sinks for round plates and pots- how many rectangular frying pans do you own Little stuff- but it all adds up to make a big difference.

IANSA is hulll #160 of a reported 165 hulls built, so she is one of the last in her model line. She has been sailed across the Atlantic and in the Caribbean, then moved by truck to San Francisco in 1999.  She has sailed the bay for the last 16 years with a very responsible second owner, getting regular care and maintenance.
