The DeFever 49 Cockpit Motor Yacht is the work of the iconic California designer Arthur DeFever. Many consider DeFever to be the godfather of trawler yachts because he was incorporating trawler features into his designs long before the industry understood the possibilities of offshore power cruising yachts. DeFever based his cruising yacht designs on the seaworthy commercial trawlers and tuna fishing boats he built. DeFever yachts are known for their seaworthy characteristics resulting from beamy displacement hulls with a deep forefoot and a full-length keel.

The DeFever 49 Cockpit Motor Yacht has the look of a long range cruiser, with its tall, clipper-style bow and ample freeboard which is carried well aft beneath a moderate sheer to the cockpit. The side decks are wide, with sturdy rails. The flared bow is designed to shed the seas, and the full displacement hull has a traditional keel and a protected prop and rudder.
