Additional Descriptions

Overview

The devoted following of Catalina 34 owners stretches worldwide making it the most popular thirty four foot sailboat ever built.

The 34 MKII was developed with a focus on easy maintenance, solid reliability and comfort both underway and at anchor. Catalina built the 34 for two decades and in doing so they proved the practicality of the masthead rig with fore and aft lowers, forestay and backstay. The inboard shroud base leaves more room for secure footing on the non-skid side deck and provides for narrow sheeting angles and the ability to carry large genoas. The rigid boom vang and double ended mainsheet system make sail handling easier and more secure.

The cockpit features "sleeping length seats". The handsome transom not only increases cockpit volume, but presents wide tapered coamings for additional seating options for captain and crew. The stern includes an unobstructed boarding platform, hot and cold freshwater shower and an extra wide boarding ladder that folds to become part of the stern rail. The comfortable stern observation seats are cleverly integrated into the rail with drink holders. There is also an integral motor mount for a dinghy outboard.

The steering station features a 40" stainless steel wheel. The large rudder delivers a high level of precision and tracking through all points of sail. Visibility is unrestricted. The ere is a cluster of instruments in pods attached to the binnacle directly i

High strength polished stainless steel hand rails on deck help keep maintenance to a minimum. The oversized anchor locker has an electric windlass and a heavy duty anchor roller.

Large two speed self-tailing primary winches allow crew to adjust sail trim easily and the headsail has a Furler. The mainsail has a dutchman sail flaking system.

The warm rich interior is satin varnished teak and ash with navy blue upholstery. Two fixed ports in each side of the hull add a bright open feeling to the expansive salon. The L-shaped galley has great counter space, double stainless sinks, overhead cup storage with a built-in coffee maker and excellent storage options. There is a built-in trash receptacle with a cutting board top. Below the sinks are two large cupboards and four drawers.

Between two staterooms and the convertible dinette there is plenty of room for the entire family or overnight guests. The mattresses in the two private staterooms are both inner spring and each stateroom features cedar lined hanging lockers plus additional storage. Large overhead opening hatches provide great light and ventilation.

The spacious head compartment and shower is aft where it is close to the cockpit.
