30' Nonsuch Ultra 30

$45,000

SKYLARK, a Nonsuch Ultra 30 cat-rigged sailboat, inspired by Gordon Fisher, designed by Mark Ellis, built by Hinterhoeller Yachts in Toronto, Canada and named after the famous "Nonsuch", a 50-foot square rigged ketch that successfully sailed into the Canadian Arctic in 1668, clearing the way for the creation of the Hudson's Bay Company two years later.

The preferred "Ultra" model added a unique dimension to the Nonsuch line and modern day sailing by adding the comfort of a more traditional interior, while still maintaining the competitive sailing advantages specific to the Cat-rigged design. The long waterline permits higher pointing ability than one sail would normally allow, while allowing the convenience of tacking by a turn of the wheel giving the racer in you an advantage. The fin keel and spade rudder also does away with the windward helm characteristic of some Cape Cod catboats.

With a free standing mast situated at the bow, the interior volume of a Nonsuch is 20% to 30% larger when compared to other 30 ft. sailboats. SKYLARK  has been updated, upgraded, and well-maintained since new.

She will sleep 5 and features a separate forward stateroom with a full sized double bunk to port. A full length hanging locker, vanity and ample storage area, including drawers and shelves, are incorporated in this stateroom. The head is forward and to Starboard, and has a separate shower stall with seat. The galley is located on the portside approximately amidships and is L-shaped. The main salon sleeps three; two on a convertible dining table, and one on the port settee. The richness of the interior is accented with a teak and holly sole, yet remains airy with a total of 7 opening ports and three overhead hatches that are all equipped with screens.

History of the Nonsuch 30

From Boat US Boat reviews (revised 10/2010) "With one sail, one halyard, one sheet, and two winches, the Nonsuch 30 is the ultimate in uncomplicated sailing. The boat was introduced in 1978 as the first offering of Hinterhoeller Yachts of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, following George Hinterhoeller's split with C&C Yachts, and it remained in production until 1994. The design is from the board of Mark Ellis. It is unique in that it combines the distinctive shear, highly cambered roach roof and nearly plumb bow and stern of a Cape Cod-styled catboat with a moderate-aspect-ratio fin keel, low wetted surface and a partially balanced spade rudder below the waterline. The price of this modern underbody is a draft of five feet, considerably deeper than a traditional 30-foot catboat. The Nonsuch carries its 11'-10" beam out well towards the ends, as is typical of catboats. This results in interior volume and allows for accommodations that are spacious even when compared with more modern designs."

Accommodations

SKYLARK is a well-maintained example of the desirable Ultra version of the Nonsuch 30. She features a private forward stateroom with a full sized double bunk to port. The stateroom offers ample storage with a large hanging locker and a built-in bureau to starboard.

A great feature of the Ultra is the head layout, which offers a separate stall shower, with teak grating and a seat, and two entrances, one from the salon and the other from the forward stateroom, for maximum convenience and privacy. The head also offers a marine toilet, a large vanity with a stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressure water, and a mirror.

The main salon can sleep three guests, two in a convertible L-shaped settee with dining table to starboard and a third in the port settee. The cabin sole is teak and holly and all hatches and ports open for excellent ventilation.
