Originally ordered and built for a well-known San Francisco Bay Area yachtsman John Merrill, ALEGRE was launched with numerous custom features and was locally campaigned until 1977. She was then sold to San Diego Yacht Club members who renamed her PELAGOS and cruised her in Southern California and a voyage to Manzanillo Mexico. Her current owner purchased her in 1992 and named her LAI' HOLOKAI. Over a seven year period she was completely refit and outfitted for long-distance offshore cruising. She has since made passages to ports in Mexico, Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest.

LAI' HOLOKAI is a fast-passage maker with a comfortable and sea kindly motion, she is stiff and has an easily driven hull form that performs extremely well on all points of sail. She handles with authority in all conditions and has a classic "big boat" feel. Configured to sail short-handed by one to two people she has generous storage, secure sea berths, and can accommodate four comfortably. All systems have excellent service access and there is minimal exterior maintenance needed. There are custom features both below decks and on deck with all sail handling systems led aft to the generous oversized cockpit.She is a proven coastal and offshore with all of the proper gear and equipment on board ready to go for her next owner.
