POINT BLUE is a creation of a life long yachtsman who owned a succession of large sailing yachts. He desired a yacht that could be handled comfortably and safely in adverse weather conditions while making open ocean passages. While most navigation stations on a yacht this size are found below decks taking up a portion of the salon, he designed POINT BLUE to have a full view control center on an upper level or mezzanine which also overlooks the entire full width grand salon of the yacht.
A talented team was assembled to achieve the owners goals. The Naval Architecture firm, Thomas Wylie Design Group, the noted Yacht Designer Dick Young who designed a fleet of yachts for Oyster Marine and America's Cup yacht builder Westerly Marine of Costa Mesa California.
The goals in the design phase of the Point 65 were two., first to simplify systems allowing for safe sailing by two people and second to achieve an open spacious mega-yacht feeling. The "surround-view" navigation station is a place where crew and guests can gather to enjoy sailing regardless of the weather conditions. Meticulous attention was given to all amenities which resulted in an extraordinary yacht with beautifully blended qualities for safe, comfortable cruising and superior performance.
The interior concept of the Point 65 is a refection of discerning requirements. It is a rare combination of performance, elegance and comfort. Finished in American Cherry the interior is abundant in natural light with a sense of spacious luxury. Attention to detail in the interior is visible in every aspect with a choice selection of fixtures, fittings and fabrics. The combination of all these factors have created a clean timeless design.
The carefully sculpted deck form accommodates twin helm stations with a commanding view of the deck that has been designed for performance cruising in elegance and comfort. The Point 65 features a self tacking jib with a Harken hydraulic furler and a new Doyle fully battened mainsail that is easily deployed with the Liesure-Furl in boom furling system. Hydraulic winches further accommodate ease of short handed sailing.
Cut away combing provides easy access to the aft deck storage of the Caribe 11' center console dinghy with a Yamaha 25hp four stroke outboard engine. Aft of the dinghy storage is a large open aft deck area with a huge lazarette storage compartment. On the transom is a hydraulically operating recessed swim platform which easily deploys via foot pedal switches on deck. The yacht also features a custom carbon fiber gangway with teak treads for Mediterranean style, stern-to mooring.
Moving forward via the wide open teak side decks there is a huge locker on the foredeck. The windlass is a Lewmar 3000 with a 60 Lb CQR anchor on the bow with 300' of 3/8 high tensile chain. There is a 6 person Winslow emergency life raft.
Entering the yacht from the spacious center cockpit, there are three steps to a mezzanine level navigation station area. There are commanding views through the large windows and total protection from the elements. The navigation station seat is to starboard and a settee for crew is to port. This area is open to the main salon and the galley below.
Proceeding down another three steps you enter the main salon. There is a large dinette to starboard with a comfortable L-shaped settee across to port. Just forward to port is a comfortable day head followed by a stateroom with large upper and lower bunks. To starboard is a VIP stateroom with a queen size pullman berth. There is direct access to had spacious head from this stateroom forward to starboard. All the way forward is a large stall shower.
Aft of the main salon to port is the galley. The galley has everything needed including a full size washer & dryer.
Aft of the galley is the full beam master stateroom with a centerline queen berth and comfortable settees on either side. There is direct access into the owners head with a large separate stall shower.
