SQUID is a classic 36' Monterey Clipper wood hulled fishing boat. Originally built in 1938, and more recently, cold molded with fiberglass on the hull and re-engined with a modern Yanmar diesel that propels this San Francisco Iconic working boat at 7 knots. Equipped for work or sport, owning this fantastic piece of history could be a pleasure.
For an article in the SF Chronicle, Carl Nolte wrote: "Without these boats, there would be no Fisherman's Wharf," said Sal Alioto, who owns a 28-foot Monterey clipper called Golden Gate.
The Monterey Clipper has long been considered part of the local fishing fleet to the San Francisco Bay Area, the Monterey Bay Area and east to the Sacramento delta. The original hulldesign was introduced into the area by Italians in the late 1860s. The design came from Genoese lateen-rigged sailboats, known as silenas, then later referred to as San Francisco feluccas.
Yanmar 4 cylinder marine diesel was recently installed with 985 total hours on the engine.
