This full keel, cutter rigged, Bob Perry design is probably one of the last of these remarkable boats built by Ocean yachts. She's an excellent example of the two person long distance cruising boat - strong, easy to handle, well equipped, lots of stowage, and in ready-to-go-condition. This traditional design compares favorably with a Hans Christian 38' or Tayana 37'.
This boat will sleep 5 or 6 comfortably, but the best accommodations favor two. The forward berth (Owner's Stateroom), is a raised, offset double with a custom made foam mattress. This area has a hanging locker and plenty of stowage. The enclosed head on the port side has a separate shower stall and a new Corian counter top. The head is new as are the hoses, the faucets, and the 12 gal SS hot water heater. The main salon has a U-shaped dinette on the port side with a hurricane lamp over the table, opposite a single settee with book shelf over. The Sony Stereo sits on a raise shelf beside the settee. The U-shaped galley is on the port side as you enter the cabin. Opposite is the chart table and quarter berth. The interior is generous with teak throughout, including the sole and bulkheads. The ports are all opening bronze while the hatch over the main salon is a butterfly hatch. There are 4 fans strategically placed throughout the boat with plenty of overhead and reading lights.
Sail & Rig
This is a deck stepped, anodized, aluminum mast with the sheet controls led to the cockpit. The halyards and reefing system is operated at the mast where two pulpits flank the mast. Both the staysail and headsail are Harken roller furl systems. The running rigging was replaced in 2013. There is a boom brake attached to the main boom. The lifelines were new in 2013.
Most electronics were upgraded for a cruise to Hawaii in 2001. The radar, GPS and autopilot can all be interfaced. Most instruments are mounted at the chart table w/wind and speed repeater at the helm.
The electrical system is designed with the cruising couple in mind. The engine is equipped with both a 100 and 55 amp alternators. There are 8 (5year old) 6v gell cell house batteries together with a 100 amp dedicated starting gel cell battery. There is an emergency switching system from the starting battery to the house batteries. The boat has shore power with a cord.
Deck & Engine
As expected, this boat has teak decks with 5 flush mounted prisms. The decks are in very nice condition. The bulwarks are varnished. Also as expected, there is a bow platform over the sprit and a boomkin aft. The bow platform has a dual anchor roller system with a Horizon electric up and down windlass. The boomkin has a stern anchor on a roller to starboard. On the housetop is a repacked 4 person liferaft in a canister with canvas over. Mounted in a separate container just aft of the liferaft is a new ('01) 406 EPIRB w/auto deploy
